Government hails e-rupee food initiative as “proof of concept for the nation”
The Reserve Bank of India’s e-rupee is entering a new phase as the retail central bank digital currency is rolled out across two territories to citizens accessing food welfare programmes.
The launch of CBDC-based food distribution “marks a significant milestone” in India’s journey towards building a “transparent and technology-driven welfare delivery ecosystem”, a government press release said.
