China and Kazakhstan to link CBDCs

Central bank agreement includes currency swap and linking interbank payments systems to settle in national currencies

China and Kazakhstan are further enhancing their financial co-operation through shared CBDC (central bank digital currency) infrastructure, according to posts by the National Bank of Kazakhstan’s deputy governor Binur Zhalenov on August 1 and later announced on the NBK’s website on August 4.

A delegation from the National Bank of Kazakhstan and the Agency for Regulation and Development of the Financial Market visited China on July 30–31.
