Cipollone outlines digital euro app as ECB readies pilot
Board member says application will ‘leave no-one behind’
The European Central Bank is to release a smartphone application to support the digital euro.
Piero Cipollone, the ECB’s executive board member responsible for payments, revealed some of its functions on July 17 at the annual meeting of the federation of Italian co-operative credit banks.
Cipollone said the functions associated with the ECB’s central bank digital currency project would be made available through a software development kit for banks to use and integrate into their existing apps.
