ECB picks digital euro service providers

Bank names six private companies, along with backup options, for CBDC project

The European Central Bank is to entrust six private sector companies with various technical aspects of the digital euro.

The ECB announced today (October 2) that it was outsourcing five “components and related services” of the central bank digital currency: the ‘alias lookup’ service; risk and fraud management systems; creation of an app and software development kit; development of an offline solution; and secure exchange of payment information.
