BoE tenders for CBDC mobile wallet

Central bank will not release wallet to the public but says it wants to “sharpen functional requirements”

The Bank of England is seeking a third-party supplier to develop a mobile wallet for central bank digital currency (CBDC).

The BoE has not confirmed it plans to issue a CBDC and says it will not provide its own CBDC wallets to the public even if does proceed with issuance. But it launched the tender to learn more about the “end-to-end user journey” and “sharpen functional requirements for both the bank and the private sector”.

The digital wallet will also make the BoE’s CBDC project more
