BoJ must prepare thoroughly for CBDC – Kuroda

It is important to prepare thoroughly for a central bank digital currency (CBDC) to ensure the stability and efficiency of the overall payment and settlement systems, Bank of Japan governor Haruhiko Kuroda said.

“Amid significant changes that are occurring with the advent of the digital society, we will take this opportunity to carefully consider the way in which we should provide central bank money,” Kuroda said in a recent speech.

While the BoJ currently has no plan to issue a CBDC, Kuroda
