Fed chair examines barriers women still face when entering the workforce

Increasing the participation rate of women in the workforce to the same level as men could help raise US economic output, the chair of the Federal Reserve has said.

Speaking at Brown University on May 5, Janet Yellen said increased participation from women could increase US economic output by 5%. Fed data shows women’s participation rate in the workforce has risen to around 75%, compared with an 88% participation rate for men.
