Indonesia amends law to expand BI’s growth focus

Rupiah hits new low as lawmakers are given greater oversight over central bank

Indonesia’s parliament today (June 4) passed a legal amendment that will require the country’s central bank to place a greater emphasis on supporting growth while allowing lawmakers to evaluate its performance.

According to Reuters, details of the amendments to the financial development law have not yet been made public. However, Indonesia’s finance minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa was quoted as having said on June 3 that the amendment would update the central bank’s mandate. Discussing the change
