Overhaul of Federal Reserve structure is needed, paper says

Former adviser to Bernanke co-authors paper stressing need to end private control of 12 regional Fed banks

Private ownership of the 12 regional reserve banks should be ended in order to improve the governance structure of the Federal Reserve, a report penned by an adviser to former Federal Reserve chairman Ben Bernanke has said.

Andrew Levin, who advised both Bernanke and then-vice chair Janet Yellen, proposed alterations to the Federal Reserve Board's governing structure earlier in 2016 when he joined the activist group ‘Fed Up'.
