Three in 10 instant payment systems built in-house
Montran is most widely-used commercial partner for development
Central banks often outsource payments development to third parties, but over 30% of instant payments systems are developed in-house, data from the Payments Benchmarks 2026 reveals.
Among the 22 central banks that provided information on the third-party vendors contracted to work on their instant payment systems, seven say the technology was developed in-house (31.8%).
Other central banks outsource their instant payments systems development to vendors, with Montran Corporation (18.2%) and CMA
