RTGS systems with broader hours accessed by more financial firms

Number of non-banks with RTGS systems access doubles year on year

Real-time gross settlement (RTGS) systems with longer operating hours tend to be accessed by more banks and non-banks, data from the Payments Benchmarks 2026 reveal.

RTGS system operating hours among respondents range from less than 6 hours to 24 hours.  Central Banking cross-analysed the data with respondents’ information on number of banks and non-bank institutions with access to RTGS.

RTGS systems with a 17–24 hour operating window give access to the highest average number (52.5) of banks
