Number of RTGS fee-regulating central banks rises

More than two-fifths of retail payments ecosystem were diversified in 2025

The share of central banks regulating the price of payments made via real-time gross settlement (RTGS) systems trended upward year on year, data from the Payments Benchmarks 2026 finds.  

More than half of central banks say they regulate fees charged for payments made via real-time gross settlement system (53.2%).
