

Larger teams more likely to oversee payments networks
Most central banks have general mandate to safeguard all payment systems
Payments networks are rarely overseen by central banks, but respondents with larger teams are more likely to cover the function, the Payments Benchmarks 2025 find.
Payments networks are the least common function in the scope of central banks’ oversight duties. Just over a third (35.4%) of respondents have the function on their radar. In the 2024 benchmark data analysed, the role was covered in just 29.7% of jurisdictions.
