

Average RTGS system processes millions of payments yearly
Benchmarking data shows wide range of transaction volumes
Central banks responding to the Payments Benchmarks 2022 reported a wide variation in the number of transactions processed by their real-time gross settlement (RTGS) systems.
The average number of payments transactions processed by respondents’ RTGS systems was 45.7 million over the last 12 months. The median value those systems processed was $80.2 billion in the same period.

BEHIND THE DATA: A high income country in Europe processed the highest number of payments – 808 million
