Criteria for systemically important payment infrastructure differs

Thirty-one out of 37 central banks said they designate systemically important payment infrastructure

A significant majority of central banks, 36 out of 37 (97%), that participated in the Payments Benchmarks 2021 said they have a payments oversight function. These vary in scope, however.  

Thirty-five out of 37 central banks (95%) said the scope of their payments oversight function included all systemically important payments systems. Most said these included retail payments systems (89%) and central bank operated systems (82%).
