DNB to focus on payments system’s resilience and autonomy
Strategy aims to ‘broaden the range of options in the payments landscape’
The Dutch central bank has said it wants to improve the resilience of the Netherlands’ payments system, lessen its reliance on non-European providers and foster innovation.
In its payments strategy for 2026–28, published on March 9, the Netherlands Bank (DNB) says its first priority is to “reduce dependence on non-European players in critical parts of the payment chain”, such as payment instruments and payment transaction processing. This is a thinly veiled reference to US-based companies
