A paper by published by the Boston Federal Reserve examines the role of equity extraction during the recent house price boom.


The research analyses the factors influencing household decisions to extract equity from homes in order to see how equity extraction affects household spending, balance sheets and residential investment.


According to the research, households extract equity for a number of reasons, including the need to finance desired expenditures, smooth consumption, and fund residential
