Former central banker appointed as Senegalese prime minister

Decision comes as government grapples with ongoing debt crisis

The president of Senegal, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, appointed former central banker Ahmadou Al Aminou Mohamed Lo as prime minister on May 25, after sacking Ousmane Sonko from the position three days earlier. 

Lo spent a significant portion of his career at the Central Bank of West African States, which sets the monetary policy of the West African Economic and Monetary Union. Lo first joined in 1987 and became national director for Senegal in December 2016. He combined this position with that of
