Georgian central bank dismisses abolition claims

The National Bank of Georgia said on Monday that rumours in the local media that the central bank was to close because it was on the verge of bankruptcy are groundless.

"The abolishment of the central bank would be impossible, moreover plans to strengthen the central bank are to be announced in the near future," the central bank said. "This deliberate media campaign against the National Bank of Georgia jeopardises the development of the banking sector and macroeconomic stability and negatively
