Belgium simplifies capital buffers, increases CCyB by 25bp

Mortgage-specific measure to be folded into single, general buffer

The National Bank of Belgium is recalibrating its macro-prudential policy.

The central bank said it was increasing the counter-cyclical buffer (CCyB) from 1% to 1.25% in a press release on November 7. Although the measure is due to come into force on January 1, lenders will have until July 1 to build up the requisite capital levels.
