UK government ‘must act against decline in cash acceptance’

Parliamentary committee suggests firms could be made to accept cash to protect those who rely on it

The UK government should consider taking action against businesses that refuse to accept cash payments, a parliamentary committee has said.

In a report published today (April 30), the House of Commons Treasury Committee warns of the emergence of a “two-tier society” – comprising digitally savvy people, and poor and vulnerable people for whom physical cash is vital – if the government does not act.
