The Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CBBH) bought two tonnes of gold in 2024, thus taking its bullion holdings to their highest-ever level.

The acquisition, reported today (March 31) by the Sarajevo Times, comes as a surprise given that the CBBH told Central Banking a year ago that it had sold 1.5 tonnes of gold in 2023. The sales were made to close positions on euro-denominated bonds that had put the peg between Bosnia’s currency, the convertible mark, and the euro under strain.
