Tokenisation could help integrate eurozone markets, says Schnabel

Central bank money must move ‘on-chain’ to safeguard its role

Isabel Schnabel, an executive board member at the European Central Bank, has argued that tokenisation could help overcome the fragmentation of financial markets across the eurozone.

In a speech at Jackson Hole on August 28, Schnabel said tokenisation could improve operability between member states’ distinct financial infrastructures, thus helping to spur cross-border capital flows and foster greater competition among the eurozone’s financial markets.
