Taiwan’s Yang says central bank money remains global ‘anchor’

Governor says it is still ‘ultimate settlement asset’, notwithstanding development of tokenisation

Central bank money will remain the “anchor” of the global monetary system, regardless of the development of stablecoins, tokenised deposits or other payments innovations, the governor of Taiwan’s central bank has said.

Speaking to industry participants today (December 4), Central Bank of China (Taiwan) governor Yang Chin-long said central bank money served as the basis of trust for the monetary system and the “ultimate settlement asset”. Yang said future payment innovations should rely on this
