Treasury officials charged over Bank of Uganda hacking

Ministry’s top accountant among those accused of corruption and abuse of office

Eight officials from Uganda’s finance ministry have been charged over their alleged role in hacking at least 53 billion shillings ($14.4 million) last year from the central bank.

The officials, who include the ministry’s most senior accountant, were charged with a total of 11 offences on February 7 in Uganda’s Anti-Corruption Court.

The alleged offences include five charges of corruption, one for abuse of office, two for electronic fraud, and one for money laundering. They were filed under the
