Lebanese authorities press criminal charges against Salameh

Former central bank governor faces investigation over alleged embezzlement

The Lebanese authorities on September 5 pressed criminal charges against former central bank governor Riad Salameh for alleged embezzlement, theft of public funds, forgery and illicit enrichment.

The National News Agency (NNA), which operates under the aegis of Lebanon’s information ministry, reported that the finance prosecutor, Ali Ibrahim, had formally pressed criminal charges after public prosecutor Jamal al-Hajjar had completed his initial enquiries.
