Brief History

The National Bank of Rwanda was established in 1964. The mission of the National Bank of Rwanda is to maintain price stability, enhance and maintain a stable and competitive financial system, and support the government’s general economic policies. 

To achieve its mission, the central bank shall:
• Define and implement monetary policy;
• Organise, supervise and regulate the foreign exchange market;
• Supervise and regulate activities of the banks and other financial institutions;
