Bank of Italy: debt-saddled Italian firms struggle to compete in Europe
A paper published by the Bank of Italy in April analyses the main differences in the financial structure of Italian and European non-financial corporations, and finds that Italian firms are less competitive than their European counterparts due to a larger burden of debt and smaller operating income.
The research studies individual balance sheets held in Amadeus (Analyse Major Databases from European Sources) between 2004 and 2007.
