Geithner wades into World Bank funding debate

Tim Geithner, the US Treasury secretary, has said donors must support the World Bank's funding demands despite misgivings over the institution's governance.

A statement prepared by Geithner, but delivered by Mark Sobel, the acting assistant secretary to the Treasury, acknowledged that the World Bank would "need to focus more on building resilience to crisis and foundations for prosperity." However, he said when considering the Bank's request for more capital to support post-crisis lending
