Uzbekistan eases foreign currency restrictions

UZBEKISTAN - Uzbekistan's Central Bank increased from 31 July the maximum amount of freely convertible currency that can be sold to Uzbek citizens travelling to countries outside the territory of the former Soviet Union to 400 dollars (from 300 dollars), the Bank's press service said.

The quota for those leaving for countries in the Commonwealth of Independent States stayed at 100 dollars.

The government had set the limit for the period between July 2000 and the end of that year at 500 dollars,
