Tussle over Gono intensifies

Political wrangling over Gideon Gono's position as the head of the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe intensified on Tuesday after Morgan Tsvangirai, the prime minister, called for the governor to be removed from office.

Local media reported that Tsvangirai's Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) party had issued a statement calling for both Gono and Johanness Tomana, the attorney genral, to step down on the grounds that both were "standing between Zimbabwe and progress".
