China, Malaysia to use own currencies to trade

Trade between Malaysia and China will soon be conducted in ringgit and renminbi as well as dollars, Zeti Akhtar Aziz, the governor of Bank Negara Malaysia, said on Friday.

Zeti told reporters that the central bank planned in the "near term" to give exporters greater flexibility by allowing them to trade in their local currencies along with greenbacks.

Zeti stated that the move would not replace the dollar, but rather encourage trade and investment between the two economies.
