Half of jurisdictions practise collateral pre-positioning

Most believe banks in their jurisdictions are ready to access emergency central bank liquidity

Half of supervisors report collateral pre-positioning is used in their jurisdictions, data from Central Banking’s Supervision Benchmarks 2026 shows.

Collateral pre-positioning refers to the practice in which banks during normal times determine what assets they would use as collateral to secure central bank liquidity in times of crisis. The central bank also conducts due diligence and calculates the haircut on the collateral in advance.
