Strategic planning frameworks widely draw on Swot analysis
European central banks’ strategies tend to favour Pestel analysis
Most central banks’ strategic planning frameworks incorporate strength, weakness, opportunities and threats (Swot) analysis, the Strategic Planning Benchmarks 2026 find.
Four-fifths (80.5%) of 41 central banks say they make use of Swot analysis in their strategic planning. Nearly 60% of central banks also reported using political, economic, social, technological, environmental and legal (Pestel) analysis. Scenario analysis (22.0%) has the smallest usage rate in the sample.
