Three in four central banks use dedicated strategic units

Units typically have a direct reporting line to the governor

The majority of central banks have a dedicated unit for strategic planning, but the function is performed as part of other business areas in around quarter of institutions, the Strategic Planning Benchmarks 2025 find.

Nearly three-quarters of 40 central banks (72.5%) reported use of a dedicated strategic unit in their jurisdictions. By contrast, the function is handled by other business areas in 27.5% of central banks.
