Strategic plans tend to be built around six key pillars

Central banks split on whether planning is broad or narrow

Central banks average around six overarching goals or pillars in their strategic plans, the Strategic Planning Benchmarks 2025 find.

Thirty-seven banks supplied data on the extent of their plans, and while there was a wide range – from three pillars to as many as 12 – the overall average was 6.1. The modal value in the sample was also six pillars, which was the case at nine central banks.

Central banks also commented on whether their planning was broad, encompassing all their mandates, or
