Vast majority of central banks taking action on climate risk

Nearly one in five banks reflect climate risk in reserves management and collateral eligibility

Almost 90% of central banks are taking action to manage climate risks, with European banks some of the most advanced, the Risk Management Benchmarks 2026 show.

Only 11.1% of risk managers say they are currently taking no action on climate change. Among the rest, the most common actions are monitoring and data collection (66.7%) and adaptation of buildings and infrastructure (62.2%).

Smaller but still significant shares of respondents have acted to manage climate risks on their own balance sheets
