Boards with salary-setting duties have largest membership
Greatest number of non-execs appointed by government
Central bank boards that are empowered to set staff compensation tend to have more members than bodies without such responsibility, data from the Governance Benchmarks 2026 shows.
Around two-thirds (68.8%) of 64 respondents indicated in a separate section of the benchmarks that they set staff remuneration. This result can be used to break down the board composition data.
Respondents whose boards are authorised to fix staff salaries have an average of 8.1 members. Of these, 3.2 are non-executive
