Data reveals differences between groups in board composition, legal protections and more

The model banks analysis digs deeper into the Governance Benchmarks 2026 data to highlight differences between cohorts of central banks. 

One of the findings that stands out from the ‘key figures’ heatmap below is that board composition differs between advanced economy (AE) central banks and those in other groups. Both larger and smaller AE banks tend to have a majority of central bank officials on their boards, while those from emerging market economies (EMEs) and low income developing
