Officials’ public appearances ranged from rare to frequent in 2020

Central banks take different approaches to senior officials’ online presence

Central banks take a range of approaches to communications by senior officials, with some proving much more active than others.

However, central banks expressed different views as to what constitutes public appearances by officials, especially in light of the pandemic. 

In 2020, the minimum number of appearances reported was zero. One central bank wrote: “2020 was not relevant for public appearances of our senior officials due to pandemic restrictions. Usually there are much more appearances
