Sri Lanka’s governor is latest to feature in deepfake scam
Video uses manipulated image to pretend central bank chief is endorsing financial investments

The governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) has become the latest high-ranking official to have their likeness used in a “deepfake” scam.
On March 7, the CBSL issued a warning to the public of “fraudulent AI-generated videos” featuring the governor’s image that had been circulating on social media.
The deepfakes show Nandalal Weerasinghe endorsing investment schemes that promise “extraordinary financial returns”, the CBSL warned.
