Belgium seeks financial market regulatory reform

Belgian Finance Minister Didier Reynders proposed on Tuesday a reform of the country's financial market regulatory system which would strengthen the power of government regulators and harmonise oversight of stock exchanges.

Belgium growth at 3.1% in 3Q down on 2Q

The Belgian economy grew 3.1% on the year in the third quarter, down from 4.6% in the second quarter and from 3.5% in the third quarter of 1999, the Belgian National Bank said Wednesday.

Jean-Jacques Rey, a director of the National Bank of Belgium since 17 September 1988, is retiring on 17 September of this year. His current term of office is coming to an end and, at his own request, will not be renewed.
