German authorities announce cyber investment fraud crackdown
“Operation Heracles” cut off nearly 10,000 phone numbers used for investment fraud
German and Austrian authorities have announced a successful hit on a network of phone-based financial fraudsters.
In a press release dated September 25, Germany’s federal financial supervisory authority, Bafin, said that over the past three months it disconnected 9,304 German telephone numbers that had been used to commit cyber trading and online investment fraud under the auspices of Operation Heracles.
Bafin worked with the cyber crime centre of the General Public Prosecutor’s Office Karlsruhe
