IMF’s Katz urges central banks not to wait for ‘perfect’ stablecoin regs

Central banks should act quickly to address gaps in stablecoin transaction data, the International Monetary Fund’s first deputy managing director said today (August 7).

“Data collection should not wait for perfect regulation,” Dan Katz told an audience at the University of Cape Town, pointing to the potential accelerating role of artificial intelligence in uptake.

While he said the market capitalisation of stablecoins had remained relatively flat over the last year at around $300 billion –
