Senate confirms Miran, while court allows Cook to stay
President’s nominee and person he tried to fire will both attend this week’s FOMC meeting
Donald Trump scored a win on September 15 when the Senate confirmed his nominee, Stephen Miran, for the vacant position on the Federal Reserve board. However, the US president suffered a defeat on the same day when a court upheld Lisa Cook’s appeal against Trump’s attempt to dismiss her from the board.
The Senate voted by 48–47 to confirm Miran. The vote was mainly on party lines, though one Republican senator, Lisa Murkowski, opposed Miran’s confirmation.
