Major banks pass Fed stress tests

All banks assessed reached minimum capital requirements in more adverse scenario

All the major banks operating in the US are adequately capitalised to continue their lending operations during a severe economic crisis, says the Federal Reserve. It unveiled the results of its annual stress tests on June 21.

“The nation’s largest bank holding companies are strongly capitalised and would be able to lend to households and businesses during a severe global recession,” says the Fed. The 35 banks assessed this year hold 80% of the assets in the US banking system.
