Fintech use shows international gender gap – BIS paper

Women use fintech less than men but reasons for this are unclear, survey finds

Policy-makers may need to intervene to reduce the fintech gender gap, according to a new paper from the Bank of International Settlements.

In their paper, Hyun Song Shin et al survey 27,000 people from 28 different economies on their access and use of fintech financial products or services.

Their results show that while 29% of men use fintech products and services, only 21% of women do. This gap is present in every country within the sample, the authors find.
