Over 90% of Japan’s financial institutions use GenAI – BoJ

Most tell central bank survey that technology is usable but needs improvement in all areas

More than 90% of Japanese financial institutions are trialling or using generative artificial intelligence (GenAI), according to a Bank of Japan survey, which also found that the figure is expected to rise.

The BoJ surveyed 150 financial institutions on their use of the technology and published the results today (August 24). These showed that around 80% of respondents were already using GenAI, a figure that climbed to more than 90% when including those institutions that were trialling the
