Liquidity is king for risk and reserve managers – panel

Short-term market moves cannot determine asset allocation, central bankers say

Liquidity and safety remain the top priorities for reserve and risk managers, according to a panel at the Central Banking Summer Meetings yesterday (June 11).

A reserve manager from a European central bank said liquidity was the key objective and that attempts to generate returns on reserves were pursued with safety in mind and within the institution’s risk appetite.

This standpoint was endorsed by most members of the panel, who hailed from both Europe and the Americas.
