Geopolitical risks to reserve adequacy: 2024 survey

Reserve managers across the world responding to Central Banking’s annual Reserve Management Trends survey cited geopolitics as the most significant risk they faced in 2026. 

Of 99 central banks that responded to this question, 69 (70%) said geopolitical tensions were their top concern. The last response to the survey came in on March 6, a week after the US and Israel launched airstrikes on Iran and four days after Iran effectively closed the Strait of Hormuz. 

Geopolitical escalation was also seen
